Outcomes Based Education to be trialed at Makerere University

Makerere University students could be among the first graduates to earn a degree under an Outcomes Based Education (OBE) curriculum. School of Distance and Lifelong Learning (SoDLL) in partnership with Leeds Metropolitan University in the UK has developed an employability and entrepreneurship skills development program for school leavers as part of the Education Partnerships in Africa Project (EPA).

Gender disparity in ICT use

Makerere University researchers in a joint study have found that female students are less likely to use Information Communication Technologies compared to their male counterparts. School of Distance and Lifelong Learning’s Dr Alice Nankya Ndidde, said that the study undertaken under the Panafrican Research Agenda on the Pedagogical Integration of ICT in Africa showed that a gender disparity existed within the use and integration of ICT in schools and institutions of higher education.

Promoting Makerere University Knowledge Transfer Partnerships

Centre for Lifelong Learning is a key player in promoting Makerere University Knowledge Transfer Partnerships. Centre for Lifelong Learning’s Cordinator Dr Ngaka has revealed that Centre will play a role in promoting service learning mode of training. Partnerships will be formed between Makerere University and businesses to solve problems identified by either party.

School of Education wins Tuning Africa project in East and Central Africa

The School of Education has competed with 200 universities in East, Central and Southern Africa to emerge the only winner of the Tuning Africa project in East and Central Africa. The project is funded by the European Union and aims to harmonize training curricula between European and African Universities.

Phd Dissemination Series: Management Capacity Building at Makerere University

School of Education lecturer, Dr Ronald Bisaso presented his PhD research findings at the 10th PhD Dissemination series that were held on Friday 9 March 2012.

School of Education pioneers Education for Sustainable Development at Makerere University

 

Over 30 students and staff participated in a dissemination seminar on the development of an Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Curriculum in the School of Education on 29 March 2012. The seminar organised by Dr Victoria Kaggwa Tamale from DFC and Dr Mathias Bwanika from DHLE, aimed to disseminate the findings of an audit carried out on the status of ESD in the School of Education.

Gender mainstreaming workshop training

College of Education and External Studies staff were on 19 March 2012 tasked to integrate gender sensitivity in all activities including planning and budgeting. This was during a one day Gender Planning and Budgeting workshop organised by the Gender Mainstreaming Directorate (GMD) at the MACE Board Room, SODLL.
